V/1R is shorthand for “veterans and first responders.” You’ll see us use it throughout our site and materials as a simple way to refer to the two primary groups we serve.
No. Our experiences are open to all veterans and first responders, regardless of disability status. Heartland Harbor Foundation is about connection and community, not criteria. We believe everyone who serves deserves the chance to find renewal in the outdoors.
Yes. Active duty service members are welcome to participate in HHF experiences. Whether you’re currently serving or retired, our goal is to provide meaningful opportunities to connect, heal, and spend time outdoors with others who understand the lifestyle and demands of service.
Some experiences are designed for veterans and first responders, while others include family members as part of the program. Others will be custom-designed based on the needs of the participating V/1Rs. For events, listings will note whether it’s individual or family-oriented.
Heartland Harbor Foundation began in the western United States, but our mission reaches far beyond it. We host and facilitate experiences across the country to ensure veterans, first responders, and their families can access the outdoors, no matter where they live.
Not always. Some HHF experiences are group-based and facilitated by our team, while others provide support for individuals or families to head outdoors on their own. In both cases, we help remove the barriers, like cost, gear, or logistics, so you can focus on the experience itself.
Join us on May 30th in Reno, Nevada as we gather together for a night of fun in support of a great cause!
